CONCEPT
CURATED BY MIRJANA MUSTRA, THE EXHIBITION DELVES INTO THE REALMS OF ABSTRACT EXPRESSION. EXPERIMENTATION, AND TRANSFORMATIVE PROCESSES, SHOWCASING A DIVERSE RANGE OF MEDIUMS THAT INCLUDE VIDEO, SCULPTURE, COLLAGE, INSTALLATION, ANIMATION, AND CAPTIVATING LIGHT INSTALLATIONS.
HAWY, PODOBA, AND WIGLINZKI VENTURE INTO UNCHARTED TERRITORIES, INTERVENING IN THE SUBSTANCE THROUGH CHEMICAL AND THERMAL PROCESSES, PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF ARTISTIC EXPERIMENTATION. THE THREE ARTISTS MERGE THEIR WORK INTO A COLLECTIVE INSTALLATION THAT IMMERSES VISITORS IN ITS WORLD OF REFLECTIONS AND DYNAMIC INTERPLAY, THE VIEWERS BECOME ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS AS THEY MOVE THROUGH THE SPACE AND ALTER THE VISUAL LANDSCAPE BY THEIR PRESENCE. THE EXHIBITION ODDS & ENDS SEEKS TO ENGAGE THE SENSES, CHALLENGING PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS AND INVITING CONTEMPLATION ON THE INTERCONNECTEDNESS OF ART, SCIENCE, AND THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE.
SOUND
IN “WARM LIGHT (ANOTHER LIFEFORM),” ARIADNE RANDALL REFRACTS THE INTIMATE AND ENTANGLED RELATIONSHIPS WE HAVE WITH OUR DEVICES INTO A KALEIDOSCOPIC WEB OF SOUND, HUMMING SINGLE NOTES INTO A LAPTOP MICROPHONE, TOUCHING THE KEYS AND TRACKPAD, SHE MANIPULATES THESE IN REAL-TIME TO BUILD A SHIFTING MASS OF 100 MORE-THAN-HUMAN VOICES. THIS POST-DIGITAL CHOIR DRAWS ATTENTION TO THE CLOSE CONNECTIONS WE MAINTAIN WITH OUR PHONES AND COMPUTERS WHO ARE IN ANY CASE ALWAYS LISTENING, OTHER LIFEFORMS ALWAYS AT OUR SIDE. IN THIS WAY, THE PRIVATE, DREAMLIKE STATE OF THE SCREEN AND THE SCROLL ARE HERE MADE RUDIBLE. THE WORK WAS FIRST HEARD IN INSTALLATION FORMAT AT FONDERIE DARLING IN QUEBEC, CANADA, AND FEATURES ON HER UPCOMING RECORD.
